Day - 37

Geography in stories.....

Untitled is set in Seattle. Part of the reason for putting this story in Seattle is because I needed a bigger city than Rayville (from Red Bow) to work with the first plot line of the story. Furthermore, several scenes that I've jotted down ideas for require certain land marks such as the Space Needle, Pike's Place Market, and Safeco Field. I'm doing research on my street names and other land marks because I want the environment and geographical descriptions to be as accurate as possible.

When I read Mark Henry's first book, I was able to get a clear picture of the location, Seattle, and knew exactly what location in the city he was describing or at least I could picture it based on surrounding areas. I think that it's important to have some sort of accuracy when dealing with a real city in a story. A made up city, well that just leaves everything to the imagination. I'm not that skilled to write about a large made up city....yet. Down the road hopefully.
